Every figure on this site is derived from a single public source: the DVSA anonymised MOT testing dataset, published by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency on data.gov.uk. We currently use release(s) 2021,2022,2023,2024,2025.

Licence

The dataset is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0, which permits reuse with attribution:

Independence

MOT Facts is an independent data project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by DVSA, DVLA or any manufacturer. Make and model names are used only to identify the vehicles the data describes.

What we publish

We only ever publish aggregate statistics (counts and rates across many vehicles), never individual vehicle or registration-level records. See the methodology for exactly how figures are calculated.
